Chairmaking Classes:

Demystify the art of chairmaking as you build your own chair utilizing traditional techniques. The history of chairmaking will be discussed along with the benefits of green wood joinery. You will be taught how to use an adz, gouge, file and spokeshave to shape the seat and spindles. We will also discuss steam bending. The bow and arm provided are already bent and you will be shaping them, using a file & spokeshave. All the turnings will be provided, already turned but still green. You will assemble the parts using jigs and fixtures to aid in the drilling and construction process. These chairs are literally built by eye and can easily be distinguished from the machine perfection of a factory reproduction.

In my one day stool class ($175) and three day chair class ($745), I provide all materials and tools needed to construct your chair. After completion of the chairs, finishing techniques will be discussed.

Chairmaking classes are taught at Woodcraft stores across the Southeast and at my shop in Kennesaw, GA.  Additionally, I teach various woodworking classes at The Dogwood Institute in Alpharetta, GA, the Woodcraft Store in Roswell, GA and at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC.
